Camera Strap Cover from Thrifted Skirt

This is a skirt I thrifted. I loved the ribbon trim around the bottom and immediately knew I wanted to make a camera strap cover from it. It was $3.98, which is more than I would normally like to pay for something that I’m going to upcycle, but I didn’t think I could replicate the look of that ribbon for less than that price, so I bought it. I’ll think of something else to do with the rest of the skirt.

I’ve been using the strap that came with my camera for a couple of years, and I like it, but I’ve wanted to dress it up. I started by cutting off the bottom of the skirt in a width wide enough to make a tube to cover my camera strap.

First I hemmed the ends.

Next I put the right sides together and sewed lengthwise to make a tube.

I flipped the tube so it was right side out and threaded the camera strap through the tube. (I had to undo one end of my strap from the camera to do this.) The last thing I did was to take a needle and thread and make a loop through the inside of the seams at the ends, then tied the thread in a knot. This was just to make it more snug at the end.

Here’s how it turned out. What do you think? This was so easy that I will probably make a few more and change them up as my mood dictates.
