This is a custom fall canvas bag I made recently. It was for a working mom with toddler twins, who always needs a way to carry around stuff. She happens to love fall, so I went with these leaves falling across the bag.

To make your own bag like this, start with a canvas bag {I got this one at Hobby Lobby}. Go online and find some free leaf shapes, unless you’re really good a freehand leaf drawing. You’ll also need felt in fall colors and embroidery thread.

Use the printouts to cut out a few different shapes and sizes of felt leaves. Next, use embroidery thread to stitch the veins onto the leaves. I used the same color thread for all the leaves.

The last step is to lay out the leaves on the bag until you like how it looks. You can always create another leaf or two if you think it needs more. Once the bag has the look you want, glue the leaves onto the canvas with E6000 glue. This glue is smelly, so make sure to do this in a well ventilated area. For this bag, I put magazines in the pockets so the glue wouldn’t bleed through and glue the pockets shut. If your bag doesn’t have pockets, make sure that the bag is propped open while the glue is drying so the front and back don’t get glued together. Let it dry for 1 – 3 days and then it’s ready to use. Give it a try!
