Look at these cute Halloween apples! My sister texted these to me the other day to show me what she was putting in her kids’ lunches. A few more texts back and forth, and I have the story for this post. {Side note about texting: Isn’t it great that we can live in different states and still have regular contact during the days between our phone conversations? I love being able to instantaneously share photos of our kids or projects we’re working on. I feel so much more connected than I would have before texting. Yay technology!}

Last year when my sister was preparing lunches, she accidentally cut a slit in an apple realized that it looked like a mouth. It happened to be October, so she added a couple of eyes to make it look like a jack-o-lantern.

This year’s accidental slice looked more like a screaming mouth:

Aren’t these fun? I would love to find one of these in my lunch. She’s been known to put one of these in her husband’s lunch, too. She said he might think she’s a dork, but we all know that being a dork is one of the things that makes her exceptional. I wonder what next year’s jack-o-lantern apple will look like?
