Here are a couple of homemade Halloween costumes I created many years ago. Since my kiddos are all teenagers now, I’m not in the costume making mode these days, but thought I’d share these just in case they give you some ideas that might inspire you. The first costume was this little pumpkin. If I remember correctly, I actually used a pattern for this. Weird, because I haven’t always been a big fan of being told what to do. As in directions. Anyway, it looks like this was one time when it worked to tell me what to do. I thought of this idea because I found this little orange ball cap and thought it would make the perfect pumpkin top. I rolled up a piece of green felt for the stem and sewed it onto the cap. Then I needed the rest of the pumpkin, hence the pattern. I cut out felt for the jack-o-lantern face on the little orange jumpsuit. That’s all I can think to call it: a jumpsuit. Here is my daughter in the pumpkin costume:

The great thing about this costume is that it worked for another kid a couple of years later. {Bonus!} Here’s a collage of my youngest son in the same pumpkin costume:

This clown costume was almost as easy as the pumpkin. It appears as though I used the same pattern for this jumpsuit, too. A stapled cardboard hat with a ruffle, some pom poms sewn on the front of the jumpsuit and the top of the hat, and that’s it. This is my daughter again, loving her candy.

Here she is after the sugar crash. Funny how I look exactly the same, but she looks completely different now, right? {That’s her in my sidebar, wearing her upcycled vintage prom dress}
