infinity scarf from thrifted skirts

This was an adorable skirt that my daughter and I bought because she loved the fabric. It was Lucky Brand and cost one dollar. She had no intention of wearing this as a skirt. I didn’t take a photo of it before she started cutting it up, but the photo below shows the bottom of the skirt (the one with the flowers) and what was left of another skirt that I used to make a camera strap cover a couple of weeks ago.

Her first step was to cut the flowered skirt in half so that she had two tubes of skirt. Then she cut them both open at one seam (so she now had two strips) and sewed them together to make a long strip, like you can see in the photo below. She also cut up the green skirt from the prior project and made a long strip out of it, too.

This girl sews quickly, so I didn’t get too many photos of the process, but she sewed the floral piece and the green piece together to make a big long tube, then sewed the ends together. She wanted the green fabric as lining to make the infinity scarf a little more sturdy. Here it is:

Pretty cute for a thrifted skirt, don’t you think? I love how creatives see potential in things that other people don’t see. In this case, I just saw a cute skirt, but my daughter imagined something totally different and was able to execute it perfectly!
