Melted Crayon Art
This is a guest post by my daughter. You’ve seen her here before, as she has modeled for many of my headband projects. In addition to being a great model, she is a blossoming artist (and photographer and seamstress…). She’s going to tell you about her weekend project. If she likes it here, she might come back to share more projects.
She creates some amazing things I think you’d enjoy. Welcome, sweet girl! Take it away…
That was a little mushy, Mom, but thanks for letting me share my project on your blog. I love looking at Pinterest for ideas and I’ve seen a lot of melted crayon art lately. This is my take on it. I don’t have pictures of the process because I didn’t know I was going to share it with anyone outside my family and friends!
I started with a tv tray that came from a set my mom and I found at a yard sale last summer. My dad cut the legs off for me and I painted the tray white with acrylic paint. Next I got a box of crayons, 24 count, and peeled the papers off. I glued the crayons to the top of the tray with Elmer’s glue. Since I knew I wanted an umbrella in the piece, I taped off the shape of the umbrella with painters tape. I used a blow dryer to melt the crayons and made sure that the drips didn’t go past the tape. It didn’t take very long for the crayon wax to dry, and once it dried I got out my acrylic paint and painted the umbrella with the silhouette in the opening. I think it turned out pretty well and it will be a perfect piece for my room.
Hey there, it’s Betsy again. Don’t you love this? Nice job, Girlie! Thanks for sharing your gift!

So cool, will definitely be doing with those many crayons I have with my Child Care kids!! I hope a styro try will work without melting but I have some tin ones too and may try those. The unbrella idea would make it a good spring project!! Have you tried the standby with kids: 2 pieces of wax paper and between them bits of broken crayons and then iron the top part, If you don’t want wax on your iron try a piece of scrap fabric but peel back off while hot leaving the wax paper behind. And definitely use real wax paper and not cereal liners (that I use instead of ever buying the real thing for other uses). Good luck and thanks for sharing!!
Thank you! It was a fun project for her. It would definitely require supervision for younger kids.
Wow! Great project. I see the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. What a crafty bunch!
Thanks, Susan! You’re too kind.
love it! The colours remind me of a midsummer thunderstorm!
Thank you! Midsummer thunderstorms are the best!
Love it! I think I saw this on Pinterest and pinned it! You are so freakin crafty! I wanna share it on my fb page and twitter! Thanks for linking this up at my linky party tonight!
Yay! Thanks for hosting the fun party!
What a brilliant, original idea! And a great way to recycle.
Any tips for getting the paper of quickly? We’re making 40 “you color my world” heart as Valentines in heart shaped molds. We’ve used all of our nubs and need to remove paper for another 20.
Thanks, Laurie! I don’t have any tricks for getting the paper off. Your Valentine’s project sounds very fun!
Oh, I love this project. Usually, I am not so happy to see melted crayons–like, when they accidentally go through the clothes dryer! This, however, is beautiful.
Thanks!
Thanks! Yes, it’s much nicer to have melted crayons in a controlled environment!
I saw this on pintrest and been dying to make it! You did a wonderful job!
Thank you, Audrey!

I love the man being rained on! Last year we did a HUGE canvas crayon art. It turned out great but then I had a hard time finding a place for it. I think I may have to make one like this now too!
My daughter had a lot of fun with this project. I hope you have fun on your next one, too!
Love this clever twist to this trendy blog craft!
Thanks, Carolyn! The possibilities are endless, aren’t they?
This is really cool. How did you think of this? Love it. A great rainy day project.;0)
Thanks, Karen. She saw lots of melted crayon art on Pinterest that inspired her idea.
Adorable. What a creative idea! So stinkin’ cute!
Thanks, Melody!
