One T-Shirt, Three Headbands

I thought I’d see how many different headbands I could make out of one t-shirt. So I grabbed a shirt from our donation pile and went to work. Here are the three headbands I came up with. I still had enough t-shirt left to make more, but my responsibilities as a mom and wife kicked in and I had to stop the crafting.

Here’s the shirt I started with:

I started by cutting off the sleeves.

Next I twisted the sleeves together and machine sewed the ends. I attached a strip of t-shirt to make the back of the headband, after holding it up for size.

Here’s how it looks:

For the next headband, I cut two strips from the bottom of the t-shirt.

I cut the seam off on one side of each piece, so I had two long strips. I linked them together, like this:

Then I added some red beads that I had. I put both ends of one strip through a bead, and both ends of the other strip through a bead. Then I scooted the beads as close to the middle as I could, making the spot where they’re linked together look like a knot, or another bead.

Then I sewed the ends to another piece of t-shirt to create the back of the headband. Here’s what it looks like:

For the last headband, I cut three strips from the bottom of the t-shirt.

I cut off one of the seams on each piece so I had three strips. I sewed one end together.

Next I braided the strips into a long braid. I folded the braid in half, and sewed on another piece of t-shirt to create the back of the headband.
