Reusable Canvas Gift Bags
I love making custom gift bags for people. Sometimes I use canvas bags, so they can be used again and again. I bought these at Hobby Lobby. If you time it right, they will be 50% off, so it’s worth it to wait a week or two and check back. Here are a couple of gift bags I made for my niece and nephew recently. I just cut the shapes out of felt and added buttons. I used E6000 glue to glue the felt and buttons to the canvas.
For my niece, it was an easy choice. She was having a tea party themed birthday. I had a lot of fun making this one.
For my nephew, I was stumped for a while. I don’t know why, but I have always found it harder to make things for boys. I didn’t want to send him something he would think was goofy or too girlie, but I didn’t want to send him a paper gift bag when I had come up with such a cute canvas gift bag for his sister. And then it hit me. Like a bomb. Green army men. This bag made my day. I had so much fun making this and imagining him using this bag to carry around his Legos from room to room, or packing some clothes for a sleepover.
You could customize these for anyone. If you give it a try, I’d love to see!

I have all boys so of course I love your army man tote bag/gift bag! I’ll have to keep an eye out for some canvas bags on sale.
Thank you! I think my boys would have loved it when they were younger, too. It probably would have ended up muddy (a clear sign of good use).
How nice are these bags! I like how you make the tracks on the tank with buttons! So creative. My son is big into “army” stuff right now. He would like this, too.
Thanks, Kate! Buttons are on of my favorite go-to craft items – maybe sometime I’ll actually use them as buttons…
These are so cute!
