the amazing type-writer

Check out this app! If you know me, you know how much I love connecting the old with the new. I love old things with histories, and I love them even more when I can connect them with modern day technologies. This app, The Amazing Type-Writer, available on the app store for $1.99, creates cards that look like they were type written. There appear to be dead keys, and the carriage is imperfect in its alignment. If you make a mistake, I think you have to cross it out, or start over, just like in the old days.

Since I just got this app today, I haven’t figured out all the ins and outs, but I have to say that typing the card for this post was challenging. I kept forgetting to capitalize things, because I’m used to computers that do it for me, and I kept forgetting to hit return at the end of a line and running off the page. Again, I’m used to the computer moving the cursor to the next line for me. Playing around with this app reminded me of being in college, when I had to type my papers on a typewriter, use whiteout if I messed up, and have several crumpled up pages laying on the floor before any paper was complete.

I love how the cards look when they’re finished.* You can email your cards to friends, tweet them, post them to the public gallery, or save them to your camera roll. This is a super fun way to incorporate “typewritten” notes into your modern technology.

I am not being paid to write this. I just think it’s a cool app. Enjoy! And send some cards!

*The statement above was not meant to be a pun, but I am watching the Cards play baseball in the world series right now, and I did love how they looked when they were finished winning last night’s game. It’s true that puns follow me everywhere.
