Three Button Headbands from One T-Shirt
Remember the Boot Toppers I made a couple of weeks ago out of an old t-shirt? I used the sleeves on that project. With what was left of the t-shirt, I made these button headbands:
Here’s what I did:
I cut a strip from the bottom of the t-shirt up to the shoulder, cutting through the front and the back. I cut that long strip in half.
With one of the pieces I overlapped the ends that weren’t attached and sewed on three buttons. Easy.
With the other piece, I tied it in a knot and sewed three buttons to each side of the “bow.” Also easy. Look at the card some of the buttons were on: I love old advertising, and especially how it says that these buttons have been the choice of smart women for more than 95 years.
For the last headband, I cut three strips from what was left of the t-shirt and pinned them together at one end.
Then I pinned that same end to the knee of the jeans I was wearing so that it would be stable while I braided. Once braided, I sewed each end of the braid so that it wouldn’t unravel.
Next, I sewed the ends of the braid together and added a tube of t-shirt material around that part so it wouldn’t look so messy. I picked out a few buttons and sewed each button on by hand. You might be able to use a glue gun for this part, but I like to wash my headbands, so I just sewed the buttons. This last headband was a little more time consuming, but still only took about 20 minutes.
Here are the headbands in action. Pardon my pictures; it’s a lot harder to get a clear photo of the top of your head than you might think!
