Thrifted Ashtray for Magazine Rack

Do you remember the magazine rack that my husband, Brian, refinished recently? It belonged to his grandfather. We have never had the ashtray that is supposed to fit in this stand, but Brian thinks he remembers it being a promotional ashtray with a tire around it. At least that’s what it was when it lived at his grandparent’s house. Anyway, over the weekend we went to a flea market to see if we could find a vintage ashtray that would work. We looked at everything in this huge flea market. It was a little overwhelming, but it felt like we had too see it all or we might miss the perfect ashtray. After a long time looking, we found this black ashtray. It fits, it matches the black/wood theme that we have going on in our music room, and it was on clearance for $1.50! We are happy to have the stand completed, even though we are not smokers. What do you think?

Well it certainly fits well, but what does one do with an empty ashtray? I guess you could put candy into it, or use it to hold your drink. Sometimes it’s just the fun of the hunt for the right thing.
It was definitely the fun of the hunt and the feeling that we completed the restoration, even though we won’t use the ashtray for its original purpose. At the moment, there is a toy sitting in the ashtray.
It’s cute! You could put a candle in place of the ashtray since you aren’t smokers!

Good idea, Tania! It’s been used as a drink holder now, too.
Hoorah! You finally found one! Congrats.
I like the idea of putting candy in it. If I were ever to come over I could eat the candy then flick my ashes in it, lol.
JUST KIDDING about both.
Haha! Thanks, Tee!
