USA burned wood sign

Here’s a project I did this week. I love Americana, so it won’t be just a 4th of July thing around here. I just found a scrap of wood in our pile, wrote USA in pencil, and burned it in with the wood burning tool.

I painted it red and because I was lazy about getting a paintbrush and I wanted it to be rustic looking, I used a paper towel to paint the wood.

Once the paint dried, I sanded it to rough it up a little. I used the wood burning tool to rough up the lines I had burned – it just burned off the red paint leaving white lines around the design I had burned in already. Then I drilled holes in the top corners and used a coat hanger for the wire. I have to say that I really need to do more projects that involve power tools. Two tiny holes drilled and I want more. Stay tuned. Here’s the finished sign:
